Hang out on a helicopter pad.  Meet the mayor.  Get blindfolded and wander around for a while.

The Community Youth Leadership Program (CYLP) is for local high school students who want to learn essential leadership skills and become engaged in our community. CYLP meets once a month from August - February, for full day sessions that include panels, tours, and activities to explore topics of importance of leadership in our community, such as arts & culture, health care and economics. Students apply in the spring of their sophomore year to participate in their junior year.

Here's what previous CYLP participants had to say about the program:

"I have gained the drive to be excellent"

- Laura, Class of 2004-2005

"I'm a much stronger leader and have more confidence in my leadership skills."

- Sarah, Class of 2005-2006

"I got to know people from other schools...it helped me see some new perspectives and opinions."

- Vanessa, Class of 2005-2006

"I have gained the idea of bringing a sense of community with you wherever you go."

- Nicholas, Class of 2003-2004.

"I formed many friendships with my peers in CYLP"

- Emily, Class of 2004-2005

Applications for the class beginning in August 2009 will be accepted through May 1, 2009.  The program is free to all accepted applicants.  For more information, contact program director Lorin Ditzler at (319) 337-9637 or lorin@iowacityarea.com. Complete an application online or download a hard copy.
