New carrier possible at Eastern Iowa Airport

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - The new director of the Eastern Iowa Airport says community leaders are to consider adding a new low-cost carrier at the Cedar Rapids facility.

Airport director Tim Bradshaw says he'll look at the idea and discuss it with local leaders to see if they're interested in having another carrier come to the airport. Bradshaw says that could happen through potential subsidies. He says budget carriers often seek that kind of help from the community before creating a new stop.

Nancy Quellhorst is president and chief executive of the Iowa City Chamber of Commerce. She says the airport loses about 200,000 passengers a year to competitors. Quellhorst says adding a low-cost carrier would be beneficial to the community.
