Harkin announces nearly $5 million in federal funding to improve Iowa airports |

Washington, D.C. (December 16, 2008) – Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today announced a total of
$4,921,579 in federal funding from the Federal Aviation Administration
(FAA) to improve nine Iowa airports. Harkin is a senior member of the
Senate panel that funds the FAA.
"Continuing to make improvements to airports across the state is important for the economic health of these communities," said Harkin.
"This funding will help keep Iowa airports in compliance with important
FAA standards and safe for travelers long into the future. I
congratulate each airport on this competitive funding and I look
forward to the improvements they will generate."
Details of the grants are below.
Eastern Iowa Airport, Cedar Rapids – $4,300,000 to continue the rehabilitation of runway 9/27 and the runway intersection;
Davenport Municipal Airport, Davenport - $80,750 to update the Airport Master Plan;
Sioux Gateway/Col. Bud Day Field, Sioux City - $239,291 to rehabilitate the apron to extend its useful life;
Arthur N Neu Airport, Carroll – $60,000 for the construction of a new partial parallel taxiway to improve safety and efficiency;
Audubon Airport Authority, Audubon – $47,500 to update the Airport Layout Plan to adequately plan airport development;
Winterset-Madison County Airport Authority, Winterset - $38,000 to update the Airport Master Plan;
George L Scott Municipal Airport, West Union - $28,500 to update the Airport Master Plan;
Webster City Municipal Airport, Webster City - $93,100 to rehabilitate the access road;
Cherokee County Regional Airport, Cherokee - $34,438 to remove obstructions to provide clear airspace for safe navigation in and around the airport.
