Hamburg Inn & Workplace Learning Connection earn Partnership Award at Chamber’s EIE awards ceremony |

The Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce Education Committee presented Iowa City’s oldest family-owned restaurant with its Partnership Award this afternoon. Hamburg Inn No. 2 was among recipients honored at the Chamber's Excellence in Education awards ceremony Wednesday, April 20 at the Coralville Public Library.
The Partnership Award is given to businesses or community groups that partner with education to share time, talent and treasure. Hamburg Inn No. 2 was recognized for providing students with memorable learning opportunities through its funding of the Mann Outdoor Education program hosted by the University of Iowa Recreation Services School of the Wild. In addition, Hamburg Inn No. 2 partners with Horace Mann Elementary on the school’s pancake supper and spring carnival.
The Chamber has presented the Excellence in Education awards for more than a decade. The event acknowledges the outstanding educational opportunities provided to the young people of Johnson County, as well as the people and organizations that work so diligently to provide those opportunities.
“High-quality educational opportunities are among the highest priorities expressed by the knowledge workers required for a robust economy,” said Nancy Quellhorst, president and CEO of the Chamber.
Workplace Learning Connection also received the Partnership Award for its collaboration with the University of Iowa Community Credit Union on the CU 4 Reality Fair. More than 900 eighth grade students in the Iowa City area partake in financial study and career exploration and put the lessons in context at the fair.
Awards were also presented for Student Excellence, Student Team/Group Excellence, Teacher Excellence, Volunteer Excellence, Administrator/Staff Excellence and Science and Technology Excellence. All schools in Johnson County can nominate for any category. Recipients included: • Student Excellence- Kimberly Shiu, Regina High School • Student Team/Group Excellence – Students Inspired Through Knowledge and Education (SSIKE), West High School • Teacher Excellence – Jo McClure, South East Junior High; Candace Wiebener, City High School; Elizabeth Tate High School Staff • Volunteer Excellence – Chris Knapp, US Bank • Administrator/Staff Excellence - Terence Coleman, City High School; Linda Potter, Northwest Junior High; Celeste Vincent, Regina Elementary School • Science and Technology Excellence- Bruce Wilson, City High School
The Chamber also awarded the Outstanding Farm Youth Scholarship to Mary Kate Mardesen and Courtney Burr, both of Clear Creek Amana High School.
