Special Election for Coralville City Council Seat on September 29th

Voters in Coralville will select a new City Council member on Tuesday, September 29, 2020, following the resignation of long-time City Councilor Tom Gill. The successful candidate will take office on Wednesday, September 30, and complete the remainder of the term, which ends December 31, 2021.

Coralville has five City Council members who serve overlapping four-year terms. This at-large, non-partisan position is elected by Coralville citizens.

Candidate Filing Information
The City of Coralville’s nomination process is by petition, with only one election. Candidates are required to have a minimum of 25 signatures of registered voters residing in Coralville on their petitions.

Candidates may begin collecting signatures at any time. Nomination papers must include the Affidavit of Candidacy and the Nomination Petition. Nomination papers must be submitted in person to the Johnson County Auditor’s Office by Friday, September 4, at 5:00 pm. The Auditor’s Office is currently open by appointment only. Special Election
Elections are managed by the Johnson County Auditor’s Office. Ballots for the September 29 Special Election will be available in early September. The deadline for requesting absentee ballots by mail is September 18. Polling hours on September 29 will be 7:00 am to 8:00 pm.
