The Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce is the local voice for business. We provide local public policy assistance as well as state and federal legislative lobbying. The official positions adopted by the Chamber’s Board of Directors annually in October are driven by our membership. Here is how a position is officially adopted:
1. A member brings an issue before a legislative subcommittee: Agriculture/Bioscience, Economic Development, Education, Health and Human Services, Local Government and Transportation. These subcommittees are most active each June through August, but a member may introduce an issue at any time it arises.
2. Subcommittee members study and research the issue, gathering feedback from other members as necessary.
3. A formal position statement is drafted and presented to the Board of Directors at a regular meeting.
4. The Board accepts or declines the position statement.
5. If a position statement is formally adopted by the Board, it becomes the official position of the Chamber as a whole and will provide direction for legislative lobbying and/or local public policy work.
